Join us for an intimate conversation with Carmel Dean, the Perth-born, New York–based composer, arranger and musical director whose work bridges Broadway and contemporary theatre.
Carmel’s compositional debut Renascence won the Off-Broadway Alliance Award for Best New Musical, and her song cycle Well‑Behaved Women—celebrating game‑changing historical figures—premiered at Joe’s Pub before receiving acclaim in Sydney. Her recent projects include commissions Maiden Voyage and the co‑composed On Cedar Street, and she continues to contribute to major Broadway and concert stages—from the current revival of Funny Girl to If/Then, American Idiot and The Notebook (with Ingrid Michaelson).
Carmel’s diverse career also features collaborations with Phish and Trey Anastasio, performances with Green Day at the Grammys, and serving as musical director for Chita Rivera. A Fulbright Scholar with an MFA from NYU and a member of the BMI Lehman Engel Workshop, Carmel will discuss her creative process, cross‑continental career, and the evolving craft of musical theatre composition and direction. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear her stories and ask your questions.
