Ylaria Rogers

Ylaria Rogers is a Canberra based director, actor, dramaturge and producer in the early stages of her career. Ylaria has collaborated across Canberra, Melbourne, Sydney and London, this includes working with The Street Theatre, Ainslie and Gorman Arts Centre, Tuggeranong Arts Centre, National Capital Orchestra, National Capital Opera, Hayes Theatre, Victorian College of the Arts, and her own production companies, Heart Strings Theatre Co and Freefall Productions.

Across these productions and companies, she has worked on a significant amount of new writing work as a director, actor and more recently, dramaturg.

In 2016 she founded, Freefall Productions, with Derek Walker, and their work included critically acclaimed productions, Proof and White Rabbit, Red Rabbit. This company was driven by a desire to create opportunities for other professionals and see important and relevant work onstage. In early 2021 Ylaria founded Canberra’s first semi- professional theatre company, Heart Strings Theatre Co, which was due to debut its first show, Urinetown The Musical, September 17 – 24 2021, now happening in July 2022. Ylaria’s work includes working as an actor for the Captain Starlight program at the Canberra Hospital and running professional development classes in Musical Theatre for Canberra-based artists. She has worked with The Street on creative developments for People Inside Me, Sheila and Camelia. In 2020 she was selected for The Street’s Early Phase creative development program for her piece advocating to change society’s perception of those who have suffered child sexual abuse. The piece aims to destigmatize and release shame in talking about these events and empower the voice of the survivor. She has recently received Arts ACT funding for We Are Not Alone’s development in 2022.
