About the Event

Solo Singing [Thr 20 May, 10am - 1pm]

No matter if you are accomplished or new to singing this class is an opportunity to learn from one of Australia’s best in a supportive, enjoyable environment.

From Festival EP, Tyran Parke; “Each year, as I search Australia for the intake at the Victorian College of the Arts, I look for a particular name on application forms. I know that those taught by Jane Edwards always have a great technical ability but also an inherent musicality and passion for telling stories”.

Acting The Part [Thu 20 May, 2pm - 5pm]

This workshop is an investigation into playing different characters from one who has made a career from doing just that! ‘John X’, as he is affectionately known, has lived his life on the stage, stepping effortlessly between plays musicals and radio across Australia playing such iconic character roles as Pumba in ‘The Lion King’ and The Cowardly Lion in ‘The Wizard of Oz’.

John will join with Tyran Parke to share a range of techniques that allow you to find a range of characters within.

Fitting into The Ensemble [Fri 21 May, 10am - 1pm]

For almost all performers, the journey begins in the ensemble. This class is designed for those who love this position, don’t necessarily wish to step out as a soloist yet but are looking to develop skills in contributing to the story energetically, without drawing focus.

Auditioning for Musical Theatre [Sat 21 May, 2.30pm - 5.30pm]

Auditioning is a skill in itself. So many great performers wish to be in ‘the room where it happens’ so they can better understand the best ways to make this inevitable process work for them.

Casting Director, Natalie Gilholme has worked with many children in Professional Musical Theatre including ‘The Secret Garden’, ‘The Sound of Music’, ‘Dream Lover’, ‘Priscilla, Queen of the Desert’, ‘Matilda’ and been responsible for casting Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ‘School of Rock’ in Australia. If there’s someone who understands the process of auditioning for children or beginners, it is Natalie.

Joined by Musical Director, Amanda Hodder, Natalie will guide you through the do’s and don’ts of audition rooms, how to control your nerves, choose appropriate material and be your best under pressure!
