About the Event

Acting Through Song [Thr 20 May, 10am - 1pm]

A singing actor who has made a splash across three continents, Natalie is also one of Australia’s most celebrated and respected teachers and we are thrilled to be bringing her to Tasmania for the first time.

With significant roles in ‘Mary Poppins’, ‘Strictly Ballroom’, ‘Kiss of the Spiderwoman’ and many more, Natalie balances her time on stage with her thriving teaching practice.

Her students frequently appear in major productions across the country and her unique and nurturing technique will give each performer permission to interpret songs with authenticity, ease and joy.

Getting Professional Roles [Thu 20 May, 2pm - 5pm]

For even the most experienced performers, auditions can be an intimidating exercise. In this workshop, you are invited into the audition process from the perspective of one of our most successful theatre practitioners and casting agents.

Having cast many musicals including ‘School of Rock’, ‘West Side Story’ and ‘The Phantom of the Opera’, Natalie knows what it takes to stand out in an audition and in this workshop, she shares her experience in order to demystify the experience and empower you to shine!

What Makes a Good Audition? [Fri 21 May, 10am - 1pm]

Auditioning is a skill in itself. So many great performers wish to be in ‘the room where it happens’ so they can better understand the best ways to make this inevitable process work for them.

Three distinguished teachers, Director Roger Hodgman, Casting Director, Natalie Gilholme and Singing teacher, Jane Edwards will guide you through the do’s and don’t’s of audition rooms, how to control your nerves, choose appropriate material and be your best under pressure!

Well Being for Artists [Sun 23 May, 10am - 1pm]

The road performers travel along, is not always a smooth one. With growing clarity on how the pressures of uncertainty, nerves and anxiety affect individuals, the industry has collectively responded with increased awareness and support. Deone has performed all over the world, and while working on Broadway, Deone was not sleeping well and highly stressed, and knew she needed something in her life to get through the daily grind. She found meditation, and suddenly life looked completely different.

Deone teaches many practical techniques to reduce stress, find balance and develop routines that allow you to remain healthy in a precarious industry. She has worked extensively with the Arts Wellness Collective in Melbourne to help extend Wellness in the Arts community.

This practical session focuses on how to use meditation to create space and energy in your everyday life.

Deone will share how meditation works, the importance of breath and how we use it, as well as several practical exercises including Mindfulness, Guided meditation and Present Moment Awareness Techniques and exercises.
