Anthony Phillips

Sydney born Anthony Phillips has been working in professional mainland Theatre for over 40 years holding positions of wardrobe supervisor with The Old Tote, Sydney theatre Co, Australian Opera, and freelancing in many major commercial musical theatre productions before setting up Anthony Phillips Costumes to work on the original build of Phantom of the Opera, and some 25 years of South African and Asian Tour cast changes or that life changing production.


Anthony was head cutter on two of the Star Wars films episode 2 and 3 filmed in Sydney, and his company provided costumes for many memorable productions including 40 Second St, Anything Goes, Les Miserables, (the original production and the second revival) Miss Saigon, Hello Dolly, Chicago, Mary Poppins, King Kong, Pricilla Queen of the desert, and many productions for the Bell Shakespeare Co. 

Films include My Brilliant Career and several period TV series.


Closing his company after the build of Matilda seeking retirement and quieter life in Launceston and being introduced to the Encore theatre Co, was asked to make and design the Principal costumes for their production of  Les Miserables, and some principal costumes on Sound of Music and assisting on Strictly Ballroom, and won the Tasmainian Theatre guild award for outstanding costume for We Will Rock You.


Anthony is well known for his detailed work with period costumes for both stage and screen and has tutored at NIDA and Tafe in Sydney, and was acknowledged by winning the lifetime achievers award by the APDG. 

Delving into the world of Rock and Roll was a new venture and has been an enjoyable one, working with the dedicated wardrobe team at Encore.  Anthony has designed several Principal costumes for the yet to be staged Mama Mia.
